| Chiangmai is undeniably an exotic tourist city embedded with hundred years of uniquely priceless cultures. Its ancient folk arts and skillful handcrafts are known internationally, for example, the ‘sa’ paper-made umbrella which is the number one handcraft product of San Kampaeng district in Chiangmai. Chiangmai is also well-known for other handicraft products including sa paper-made fans, notebooks, and photo aulbum; wooden vases, silverwares, and aroma candles. Silk products, including clothing and home furniture, are one of the popular items. |

Chiangmai provincial government has been actively promoting local handcraft products and Lanna cultures in many ways. One of Chiangmai’s popular cultural events is Chiangmai walking street or Sunday Market which closes down Ta-Pae road from the East to Rajdamnern road in the West. Soon after it had started, Chiangmai walking street has become a new cultural shopping spot for both locals and tourists from within Thailand and abroad. Tourists especially enjoy scrolling down the crowded street full of shoppers and mass variety local products, ranking from clothing, shoes, lamps, crafted soaps, crafted woods, and etc. Shopping is therefore a ‘must-do’ in Chiangmai for tourists, whether on walking streets that are mushrooming throughout the city or right in villages where handcrafts are made like Bo-Sang village in San Kampaeng.
